The AIFF, in its executive committee meeting sanctioned the project ‘Goal 2011’, wherein 25-30 national team players will miss club football for a period of 7 months starting August, during which they will be involved in several camps and friendly matches leading to the Asian Cup in Doha in January.

The AIFF has also decided to pay the salaries of the players selected to prevent any club versus country row. The senior Indian football team will participate in a training camp in Dubai from February 4 to 16. Another camp scheduled from June 24 to August 15, will see the team travel to Europe.

In other news, the AIFF executive committee has also decided to expand the I-league to 16 teams from the beginning of next season.
