LUDHIANA: It proved to be a nice home coming for JCT as they beat Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 in their 12th round ONGC I-League match on Thursday.

After going down 1-2 to Mumbai FC on January 2, the home side put up a spirited show to ensure Sporting remain at the bottom of the points table with five points.

JCT now have 14 points from 12 matches and are placed ninth in league table. JCT scored early after Ajay Singh hit a perfect volley that beat Sporting goalkeeper Luis Barretto. The home team came close to double the lead in the 26th minute.

Sporting sorely missed the services of star striker Junior Elijah, who couldn't take the field owing to injury. But JCT defenders, Jaspal Singh and Narinder Singh, in particular, also did well to keep all threats at bay. After interval, Baljit Sahni beat keeper Barretto with a left-footer. (TNN)
