SILCHAR: Mumbai FC pocketed three vital points in their opening league match edging past Sporting Clube de Goa 2-1 in the second Group C league encounter played at the Satindra Mohan Dev memorial stadium, Silchar on Monday.

Mumbai FC continued their good run and once again put a spirited performance to start their Federation Cup journey on a confident note. The Mumbai outfit though started the match on a defensive note but at the end came out victorious when substitute Subhas Chakroborty scored the winner in the 74th minute.

Sporting took the offensive approach right from the outset and went ahead in 27th minute through their Nigerian striker Nathaniel Amos. Amos took advantage of a Mumbai FC defensive lapse to slot in his right footer easily at the near post but soon the Flaming Orange threw away the lead when Dane Pereira levelled the terms.

After the breather there was a lot of physical contact in the match and one such incident put Sporting down to ten men. Sporting defender Fulganco Cardozo was given the marching orders by the centre referee Naveen Sundi after he elbowed Nishant Mehra from the back.

Khalid Jamil’s substitution in the 64th minute did the trick for his side. Subhas Chakroborty replaced injured Nishant Mehra and netted in the decisive goal to deny Vishwas Gaonkar’s side a point.
